Character
Name: Rapunzel
Age: 18
Gender: Female
Species: magical glowing flower Human

Canon: Tangled
Canon Point: After escaping the flooded cave, but before healing Flynn's hand.
World and Background: To The Wikimobile!

Personality:
For someone who's lived alone in a tower for her whole life, Rapunzel is surprisingly optimistic and spunky. She greets every day with the same excitement, despite going through the same routine over and over. Having so much free time on her hands has allowed her to master many different skills like baking and candle making, leading to her being a bit of a jack-of-all-trades. She's also knowledgeable about more advanced subjects like astronomy.

Despite all this, Rapunzel doesn't know how the world works. She doesn't really know how to interact in social situations and has to rely on her natural charm. Fortunately, she comes off as very likeable, which helps her win people over. She also proves to be very faithful and reliable, actually taking pride in the fact that she always keeps her promises no matter what. Interestingly, Rapunzel herself is immune to flirtatious charms, most likely due to her very limited social interaction. She has a lively and spirited sense of adventure, again caused by being shut away for her life. Once outside her tower, she proves to be quite daring, even swinging across a ravine and being willing to take on a bar full of ruffians and thugs to save Flynn. This quality is what helps her along her way to achieve her dream of seeing the floating lanterns.

Unfortunately, these qualities also have their downsides. Her naivete and obedience can easily be exploited so long as she thinks the person is doing the right thing. This is the key to how Gothel kept her so complacent over the eighteen years of her life. Gothel is also the cause of many of Rapunzel's self doubts, constantly putting her down and excusing it by saying she's just teasing. When Rapunzel first leaves her tower, her thoughts are constantly torn between finally achieving her dream and worrying over what her mother will say or do if she ever finds out. Not only that, but she's also had her head filled with gross exaggerations of how horrible the world is, causing her to cast suspicion and doubt on most everything. She's been pretty soundly beaten down by her "mother", but has recently started to come out of her shell thanks to Flynn Rider. She goes from jumping at bunnies in the bushes to joining in on a song with a band of friendly ruffians. But only after getting to know them, of course.

Abilities:
The only special ability Rapunzel has is her magic hair. Rapunzel's hair can glow and heal any wound or illness, even rejuvenating people to a healthier age, provided that she sings a short song while the person is touching her hair.

Skills:
Strength and Agility: Due to many years of hoisting her mother up a tall tower with nothing but her hair, Rapunzel has developed impressive strength for her age. She’s able to swing from hair like it’s a vine without any trouble at all. It also helps her tote around her ten pounds worth of hair and is probably the reason why she can take out a grown man with her frying pan. In addition, she’s very agile and dexterous with her hair due to all the times she's used it to climb and lift things.

Arts and Crafts: Rapunzel is extremely artistic. She can draw, paint murals, make candles, knit, sew, play guitar, make papier-mache, dance ballet, do pottery, and even cook and bake.

Animal Lover: Every animal that meets Rapunzel warms to her almost instantly. Even serious old Maximus can't resist her charms.

Weaknesses:
Mommy's Little Flower: At her current canon point, Rapunzel is still unaware of her mother's true intentions regarding her and her magic hair. Because of this, she still views her in a good light and does feel some guilt about disobeying her. No matter what anyone tells her, she still believes that Gothel was just protecting her by locking her away. If anything, suddenly being spirited away to Cape Beryl will only make her question her decision to leave even more.

Insecurities: She's made some progress, but Rapunzel still has some deep-seeded insecurities. She's spent her entire life being told that she could never survive outside of her tower. Although her encounter with Flynn has brought out some of her self-confidence, being completely on her own will bring some of those old doubts back to the forefront.

Roleplay Samples

First-Person Sample:
So...how do you take care of chickens?

[Rapunzel looks completely baffled by the cute little ball of fluff in her hand.]

I mean, I've only ever needed to worry about myself and Pascal, and he can take care of himself. But...I mean, it's basically a baby, right? I've never taken care of a baby before.

...I guess they need food and water, right? And a warm bed.

[She looks down at the cheeping ball and can't help but smile.]

I could spruce up the coop a bit. Y'know, make it a little more cozy.

Third-Person Sample:
"A swish here, a swirl there..."

The inside of Rapunzel's little farmhouse looked like a colorful war zone. Buckets of paint sat around the floor. Stray drops were drying on the wooden floor, but she could worry about that later. Right now, she needed to get this mural finished. Painting kept her busy. It made sure she didn't think to hard about things she shouldn't dwell on. She'd tried occupying her time with other things, and to be fair farming was a pretty good distraction. The problem was she was getting too good at it. She would finish too quickly, giving her the rest of the day for her brain to wander places she didn't want it to go. The bare, boring walls of her farmhouse didn't help.

If she had too much free time with nothing to occupy it, then she would think about Eugene. Was he okay? Did he ever make it to the kingdom? Was he looking for her? Or did he just go back to her tower for his satchel? And then, of course, thoughts of her tower brought about thoughts of her mother. What would she think when she came home to find her gone? How long would she search? What would happen if she never went home? Faced with the overwhelming amount of worry in her head, she turned to what always helped her.

She started to paint again.

It had taken a while to save up enough Gold to get a good variety of paints, but she'd finally done it. And, with the exception of farming in the morning, she'd spent all day decorating. It didn't matter if she painted things from home because she was too focused on her work. If she was going to paint people from home, she wanted to make sure every detail was right. If she was completely honest with herself, part of her hoped at least having images from home would make everything easier. Maybe then she wouldn't worry so much. ...Maybe then she wouldn't miss home so much.

Pascal perched atop her head, as if her were silently critiquing her work. Indeed, she'd look at him in the mirror for his approval. Just like she was doing now, actually.

"What d'you think so far?"

A nod from her little green friend was enough to brighten her day.

"Really? You don't think it's too much?"

Another reassuring nod prompted her to step back and admire her first finished portrait.

"...Y'know, I think I finally got his nose right."

Anything else?
Would it be alright for her to bring Pascal with her?
